DeVore Dominates Attorney General Debate

Challenges Kwame Rauol on SAFE-T ACT and abuse of power during COVID

For the first time on Monday, Republican Attorney General nominee Tom DeVore faced off in a debate with incumbent Attorney General Kwame Raoul. The virtual forum was hosted by the Illinois Associated Press Media Editors Association.

The debate covered a wide range of topics, but the most passionate and heated exchanges centered around the controversial SAFE-T ACT and abuse of executive powers during the pandemic.

Here are a few highlights from the debate that centered around the abuses of power during the pandemic and the masking of children in schools:

"The kids of this state will never recover from your failure to defend them against the Governor."

"If our Attorney General would have stood up and said that this is an excessive use, like Judge Grischow did, calling it the evil that the law was intended to protect the people against, we wouldn't have had to go down this path."

"You don't just arbitrarily sit back and say, 'well the legislature passed it, the governor signed it and I have a duty to defend it' - that's what Attorney General's do who's top two contributors to their campaigns are in fact the executive and the legislature. If you're representing everybody equally, you have a duty to the people to raise these issues."
